Roller Flour Millers Federation of India (RFMFI), the apex body representing the flour milling industry at the national level, is associated with projects like Fortification – promoting Nutrition and Health as the industry’s major endeavors contributing towards reduction of “Hidden Hunger” and combating micronutrient malnutrition. RFMFI is promoting and supporting wheat flour fortification in states like Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, Gujarat and Delhi – supporting and promoting wheat flour fortification both for its distribution through open market commercial channels along with various Government funded programmes like the ICDS, MDM and PDS.
In 2010, RFMFI initiated fortification of wheat flour in the state of Madhya Pradesh in technical/financial collaboration with Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) facilitating the production of wheat flour with vital nutrients like Iron, Folic Acid, Vitamin A & B12 under the WFF project. The project was initiated with a view to
- To reduce the prevalence of Anemia in the population of Madhya Pradesh through fortification of wheat flour
- To raise awareness about fortification and its benefits among stakeholders and beneficiaries
- To enhance the capacity of local manufacturers in fortification
- To demonstrate the operational and technical feasibility of wheat flour fortification in different settings like the public funded program and commercial channels
